The GMAA will award two scholarships of $1,500 each to graduating seniors to help fund their college careers. The winners were chosen from many applicants, and were determined based on their academic achievements, community and school involvement, and their contribution to the sport of running. Congratulations to our 2026 winners:
Tobias Hurteau
Tobias participated in cross-country, Nordic skiing, and track and field teams in all 12 seasons of his high school career at Bellows Free Academy. Tobias led his teams as captain of the cross-country and Nordic skiing teams, and was both an inductee to and President of the Champlain Chapter of the National Honor Society. Tobias participated in many volunteer and philanthropic extracurricular activities, including the town Walk and Bike Safety Committee, Special Olympics, and leader in the Athletic Leadership Council. Tobias has found success in competitive running but has also demonstrated an understanding of how running can support his day-to-day life. Tobias will be pursuing a degree in nursing, with a goal to become a nurse practitioner to address limited access to health education.
Daniel Jackson
Daniel Jackson participated in cross-country, track, and Nordic Skiing in 10 seasons during his high school career at South Burlington. A resident of South Hero, Daniel led his cross-country team as Captain in 2025. Daniels’ volunteer experience included years of support at the South Hero Kid Try-Athlon, and as a leader in the South Burlington High School Student Leadership Advisory Meeting, where he mentored a group of 12 first-year students through community service and team-building activities. Daniel’s desire to run began in middle school; when his middle school didn’t offer a cross country program, he put together his own race schedule. Daniel will attend Brigham Young University to study Mechanical Engineering, where he looks forward to channeling his lessons learned from running into thriving in this new environment.
